Listing Standards & Prohibited Items

Review our listing rules, restricted and prohibited items, seller disclosure standards, racing-fuel rules, safety requirements, and enforcement.

Build trust through accurate, complete listings

RaceTeams connects Buyers and Sellers throughout the racing community. Clear and accurate Listings help protect Buyers, reduce cancellations and refunds, prevent disputes, and build confidence in the marketplace.

This Listing Standards & Prohibited Items Policy applies to every Listing posted on RaceTeams.com, including:

  • Vehicles
  • Parts and components
  • Merchandise and collectibles
  • Supplies and equipment
  • Racing fuel and chemicals
  • Services and bookings
  • Rentals and experiences
  • Events
  • Sponsorship opportunities
  • Classifieds
  • Transportation services
  • Other racing-related products and opportunities

Sellers are responsible for ensuring that their Listings, Offerings, business practices, and transactions comply with this Policy, the RaceTeams Terms of Service, the RaceTeams Marketplace Transaction, Cancellation, Refund & Dispute Policy, payment-provider requirements, carrier requirements, and applicable law.

Three listing categories

RaceTeams classifies Listings as:

Acceptable

Offerings that may generally be listed and transacted through RaceTeams when accurately described and lawfully offered.

Restricted

Offerings that may be listed only when the Seller satisfies additional disclosure, safety, licensing, delivery, payment, or transaction requirements.

RaceTeams may separately require approval before a Seller receives access to publish Listings. Once listing access has been granted, a Restricted classification does not necessarily require individual pre-approval solely because the Listing is Restricted. RaceTeams may review Restricted Listings at any time, request supporting documents, restrict payment or shipping options, or remove the Listing when necessary.

Prohibited

Offerings and conduct that may not be listed, requested, advertised, sold, rented, booked, promoted, or facilitated through RaceTeams.

A product being legal in one location does not guarantee that it may be listed or sold through RaceTeams. Payment providers, carriers, tracks, sanctioning bodies, and other third parties may apply additional restrictions.

Member Launch and listing access

During the Member Launch and after, RaceTeams may open Seller and provider access in stages. Creating a RaceTeams Account does not automatically create a right to publish Listings. Prospective Sellers may be required to apply for listing access, complete profile information, identify their racing or business role, and provide information about the types of Offerings they intend to list.

RaceTeams may approve, decline, limit, suspend, or condition listing access based on marketplace fit, profile completeness, policy compliance, risk, operational capacity, or other legitimate marketplace considerations. Approval to list is an onboarding and access decision only. It is not an endorsement, certification, guarantee, background check, or independent verification of the Seller or every Listing.

Seller-access approval is separate from the Acceptable, Restricted, and Prohibited classifications in this Policy. A Seller who has been approved to list remains responsible for every Listing and must continue to comply with this Policy, the Terms, Payment Provider requirements, and applicable law.

1. General standards for every Listing

Every Seller must provide information that is accurate, current, understandable, and not misleading.

A Listing must clearly identify:

  • What is being offered
  • The identity or business role of the Seller
  • The price or pricing method
  • What is included and excluded
  • The Offering’s condition
  • Known defects, damage, wear, or limitations
  • Availability and expected fulfillment timing
  • Location
  • Shipping, delivery, pickup, or performance terms
  • Mandatory additional charges
  • Cancellation, return, and refund rules
  • Warranties or the absence of a warranty
  • Legal, safety, licensing, or intended-use restrictions
  • Any additional agreement, waiver, or qualification required

A Seller may not omit a fact that would materially affect a reasonable Buyer’s decision.

Seller authority

Before posting, the Seller must have the legal right and authority to offer the product, service, opportunity, or other Offering.

The Seller must disclose any:

  • Lien
  • Security interest
  • Consignment arrangement
  • Co-owner
  • Lease
  • Financing restriction
  • Approval right
  • Intellectual-property restriction
  • Sponsorship restriction
  • Title issue
  • Other limitation affecting the Seller’s authority

A Seller acting for another person, team, company, track, series, sponsor, manufacturer, or rights holder must have permission to create the Listing.

Listing photos and media

Photos and videos should show the actual Offering whenever reasonably possible.

Sellers must not:

  • Use another person’s photographs without permission
  • Use stock images in a way that misrepresents the actual item
  • Digitally alter an image to hide damage or defects
  • Display logos, trademarks, racing marks, sponsor assets, or likenesses without authority
  • Use images that show a different model, condition, quantity, or configuration without clearly explaining the difference

Stock or manufacturer images may be used for illustration when clearly identified, but the Seller should also provide current images of the actual Offering.

Marketplace transparency and high-volume sellers

RaceTeams may require Sellers to provide identity, contact, payment, tax, business, or other information when required by law, Payment Provider rules, fraud controls, or marketplace-transparency requirements.

If the INFORM Consumers Act or another marketplace-transparency law applies to a Seller or Listing, RaceTeams may require the Seller to provide and periodically certify required information, may independently or through a provider verify that information, may make disclosures required by law, and may suspend future sales activity until the Seller complies. A Seller Profile Reviewed designation is a separate marketplace profile-review program and does not replace any verification required by law or Stripe.

Marketplace fee and anti-circumvention rule

A Seller may not use a RaceTeams Listing, inquiry, messaging feature, or introduction to avoid an applicable RaceTeams fee. A transaction paid through the standard RaceTeams marketplace flow is generally subject to the 14.9% RaceTeams Seller Marketplace Service Fee. If RaceTeams generates the Buyer-Seller connection and the same or a substantially related transaction is completed outside RaceTeams within the period defined in the Terms of Service, the Seller may owe the 10% Marketplace-Originated Lead Fee. See the RaceTeams Marketplace Fees page and Terms of Service for the controlling definitions, exclusions, and payment rules.

  • Die-cast vehicles
  • Autographed items
  • Race-used items

  • Setup and tuning
  • Graphic design
  • Wrap installation

Sponsorship opportunities

Sponsorship Listings may offer branding, hospitality, content, appearances, digital promotion, team access, event activation, or other commercial rights.

The Seller must accurately disclose:

  • Available rights and inventory
  • Deliverables
  • Timing
  • Approval requirements
  • Audience or performance data
  • Category exclusivity
  • Measurement and reporting
  • Cancellation and make-good terms
  • Any limitations imposed by teams, series, tracks, sponsors, broadcasters, or rights holders

A Seller may not guarantee exposure, sales, return on investment, tax benefits, audience size, or performance unless the claim is truthful, documented, and included in a binding written agreement.

3. Restricted Listings

Once a Seller has been granted listing access, Restricted Listings may generally be posted without separate routine pre-approval solely because they are Restricted, but the Seller must comply with the requirements below and RaceTeams may require category-specific review when appropriate.

RaceTeams may require documents or restrict checkout, payout, delivery, or account access after the Listing is posted.

Competition-only vehicles and parts

Competition-only vehicles, engines, parts, software, tuning products, tires, fuels, and other equipment are permitted only when lawfully offered.

The Listing must clearly state when the Offering:

  • Is intended only for competition or closed-course use
  • Is not street legal
  • Is not approved for public-road use
  • Lacks a title or registration
  • Requires professional installation
  • Requires technical expertise
  • May not comply with emissions, noise, safety, or equipment laws
  • Is intended for display, experimental, off-road, or professional use
  • May be incompatible with the Buyer’s vehicle or intended use

The phrase “for racing use only,” “off-road use only,” or similar language does not excuse an unlawful product or transaction.

Listings may not offer hardware, software, tuning, delete kits, or services designed to unlawfully disable, bypass, defeat, or render inoperative required emissions or safety systems.

Racing fuel, oils, additives, and chemicals

Lawful racing fuel, oils, additives, cleaners, coatings, and other qualifying chemical products may be advertised on RaceTeams only when the Seller can lawfully possess, advertise, store, transfer, transport, and deliver the product and when the Listing satisfies this Policy.

The Listing must disclose, where applicable:

  • Manufacturer and product name
  • Intended use
  • Container size and quantity
  • Whether the container is new, sealed, opened, or partially used
  • Hazard classification
  • Safety Data Sheet availability
  • Storage requirements
  • Handling precautions
  • Fire, health, environmental, or incompatibility risks
  • Expiration or manufacturing date
  • Whether the product may be shipped
  • Approved delivery or pickup method
  • Geographic restrictions
  • Carrier restrictions
  • Required licenses or certifications

A Seller may not list an unknown, leaking, damaged, improperly stored, repackaged, adulterated, mislabeled, or unlawfully distributed chemical.

Stripe and checkout restrictions

RaceTeams uses Stripe for standard marketplace payment processing. Products or materials prohibited or unsupported by Stripe may not use RaceTeams/Stripe checkout, even if the product may lawfully be advertised or transferred in a particular jurisdiction. Stripe currently prohibits certain toxic, flammable, combustible, radioactive, and other dangerous materials.

Accordingly, qualifying racing-fuel or chemical Listings may be restricted to inquiry-only, compliant local pickup, or another transaction method expressly permitted by RaceTeams and applicable law. RaceTeams may disable checkout, remove shipping options, require additional documentation, cancel or restrict a transaction, or remove a Listing when required by a Payment Provider, carrier, insurer, regulator, or applicable law.

The Seller remains solely responsible for determining whether the Seller may lawfully possess, advertise, sell, package, transport, ship, deliver, store, and transfer the product. A RaceTeams Listing does not authorize conduct prohibited by law, a Payment Provider, or a carrier.

Used safety equipment

Used helmets, restraints, fire suits, gloves, shoes, seats, nets, fire systems, protective equipment, and similar safety products require heightened disclosure.

The Seller must disclose:

  • Manufacturer
  • Model
  • Manufacturing date
  • Certification or rating
  • Certification expiration
  • Service life
  • Prior impacts, fires, crashes, deployments, repairs, or alterations
  • Missing components
  • Visible wear or damage
  • Storage conditions
  • Whether inspection, recertification, replacement, or professional evaluation is required

A Seller may not describe used safety equipment as safe, certified, race-ready, or suitable for a particular series unless the Seller has a reasonable and documented basis for that claim.

Vehicles, trailers, and high-value property

Listings for vehicles, trailers, haulers, engines, and other high-value property must accurately disclose:

  • Legal owner
  • Title status
  • Vehicle identification or serial number
  • Liens or security interests
  • Odometer, hours, or usage information where relevant
  • Major damage
  • Fire or flood exposure
  • Salvage or rebuilt status
  • Material modifications
  • Missing parts
  • Included spares
  • Competition history
  • Inspection availability
  • Pickup, shipping, escrow, or closing process

RaceTeams may require a separate Transaction Assistance Agreement, qualified independent escrow provider, inspection, payment or identity verification, or ownership documentation for selected high-value transactions.

Custom, personalized, or made-to-order products

The Seller must disclose:

  • Specifications
  • Materials
  • Measurements
  • Design approval process
  • Production schedule
  • Deposit requirements
  • Revision limits
  • Cancellation point
  • Refund restrictions
  • Whether the product may be returned
  • Who owns designs, files, molds, tooling, or other work product

The Seller should obtain the Buyer’s written approval before beginning irreversible work.

Services requiring licenses, insurance, or specialized qualifications

Transportation, vehicle repair, instruction, event operation, rentals, professional services, and similar Listings must identify any required:

  • License
  • Registration
  • Permit
  • Insurance
  • Certification
  • Experience
  • Facility approval
  • Sanctioning-body credential
  • Commercial driving authority
  • Professional qualification

RaceTeams may request evidence at any time.

Events, rentals, and physical participation

Listings involving physical access, vehicles, track activity, equipment, instruction, or motorsports participation must clearly disclose:

  • Inherent risks
  • Participant requirements
  • Age restrictions
  • Guardian requirements
  • Safety equipment
  • Medical or physical qualifications
  • Insurance requirements
  • Waivers and releases
  • Track, venue, series, or sanctioning-body rules
  • Weather and cancellation rules
  • Damage deposits
  • Responsibility for equipment damage

The Listing itself does not replace a properly drafted participant waiver or rental agreement.

4. Prohibited Listings

The following may not be listed or transacted through RaceTeams.

Illegal, stolen, counterfeit, or recalled items

Prohibited items include:

  • Stolen property
  • Counterfeit products
  • Unlawfully copied merchandise
  • Products bearing unauthorized trademarks or logos
  • Items subject to an unresolved safety recall
  • Banned products
  • Fraudulently titled vehicles
  • Altered or removed serial numbers
  • Altered vehicle identification numbers
  • Forged certifications
  • Fake credentials
  • Property the Seller does not have authority to sell

A recalled product may not be listed unless the officially required remedy has been completed and the Listing clearly documents that remedy.

Emissions and safety defeat devices

Prohibited Offerings include products or services designed or marketed to unlawfully:

  • Disable emissions controls
  • Bypass pollution-control equipment
  • Remove required catalysts or filters
  • Defeat onboard diagnostics
  • Falsify emissions readiness
  • Disable required safety systems
  • Alter required compliance labels
  • Evade inspections or enforcement

Labeling an item “competition only” does not make an otherwise unlawful product acceptable.

Weapons and explosives

RaceTeams prohibits:

  • Firearms
  • Ammunition
  • Explosives
  • Fireworks
  • Detonators
  • Destructive devices
  • Weapon conversion devices
  • Illegal knives or restricted weapons
  • Products intended to cause unlawful injury

Ordinary racing tools, air tools, safety equipment, and lawful vehicle fire-suppression systems are not prohibited merely because they contain pressurized components, but they remain subject to shipping and safety rules.

Unlawful, prohibited, or unsupported hazardous materials

Prohibited materials include:

  • Explosives
  • Radioactive materials
  • Illegal drugs
  • Controlled substances
  • Unlawful pesticides
  • Unidentified chemicals
  • Incorrectly labeled chemicals
  • Unlawfully repackaged fuel or chemicals
  • Leaking or damaged containers
  • Materials prohibited by the applicable payment provider or carrier
  • Hazardous materials offered through a payment, shipping, or delivery method that does not permit them
  • Products that cannot be lawfully stored, shipped, transferred, or delivered

Illegal street-racing activity

RaceTeams may not be used to organize, promote, facilitate, or sell access to illegal street racing, unlawful speed contests, reckless driving, or unauthorized use of public roads.

Sanctioned racing, permitted competition, private testing, closed-course activity, and lawful motorsports events are allowed when accurately described.

Fraudulent financial or investment offerings

Prohibited Listings include:

  • Unregistered securities
  • Fraudulent investment opportunities
  • Guaranteed returns
  • Illegal revenue-sharing arrangements
  • Pyramid schemes
  • Ponzi schemes
  • Unlawful crowdfunding
  • Tokens or digital assets offered as investments
  • Gambling
  • Lotteries
  • Prize-based schemes that violate applicable law

A sponsorship Listing must offer a genuine marketing or promotional opportunity and may not be disguised fundraising, gambling, or an investment solicitation.

Infringing or unauthorized content

Sellers may not list:

  • Counterfeit merchandise
  • Unauthorized reproductions
  • Pirated media
  • Stolen photographs or video
  • Unlicensed designs
  • Unauthorized team, sponsor, series, track, or manufacturer merchandise
  • Autographs falsely represented as authentic
  • Race-used items with fabricated provenance

Unsafe, deceptive, or materially misrepresented Offerings

Prohibited Listings include:

  • Items with deliberately concealed damage
  • False mileage or usage claims
  • False title or ownership claims
  • Materially altered photographs
  • Fake inspection reports
  • False certification claims
  • False fitment claims
  • False performance claims
  • False audience or sponsorship metrics
  • Items knowingly presented as complete when material parts are missing

Personal information and identity materials

Sellers may not list, publish, or request:

  • Government identification
  • Financial account information
  • Passwords
  • Login credentials
  • Private medical information
  • Stolen customer records
  • Personal information obtained without authority
  • Another person’s home address or private contact information
  • Sensitive information about a minor

Harmful or abusive content

Listings may not contain or promote:

  • Threats
  • Harassment
  • Hate
  • Discrimination
  • Exploitation
  • Obscene content
  • Sexual Content
  • Sexual content involving minors
  • Human trafficking
  • Self-harm
  • Unlawful violence
  • Fraud
  • Malicious software
  • Unauthorized surveillance
  • Data theft

5. Tips to reduce disputes and refund risk

Accurate descriptions are the strongest way Sellers can prevent disputes.

Describe the actual condition

Avoid vague terms such as:

  • Good condition
  • Like new
  • Race-ready
  • Fresh
  • Perfect
  • No issues
  • Bolt-on
  • Fits everything

Use specific and verifiable descriptions instead.

For example:

Used aluminum radiator removed from a 2022 late model after one season. Approximately 18 races. Bent fins are visible on the lower-left corner. No known leaks at removal. Pressure testing has not been completed. Buyer should inspect or test before installation.

Disclose every known defect

Tell the Buyer about:

  • Cracks
  • Leaks
  • Corrosion
  • Worn components
  • Missing parts
  • Repairs
  • Welds
  • Prior impacts
  • Fire or heat exposure
  • Water or flood exposure
  • Electrical issues
  • Cosmetic damage
  • Storage damage
  • Expired certifications
  • Incomplete testing
  • Unknown history

A disclosed defect can be evaluated before purchase. An undisclosed defect often becomes a refund or chargeback dispute.

Use current photographs

Include clear photographs of:

  • Every side
  • Damage and wear
  • Serial or identification numbers
  • Date codes
  • Certification labels
  • Included accessories
  • Packaging
  • Odometer or hour meter
  • Title or ownership documents with sensitive information covered
  • The item prepared for shipment

Do not rely only on manufacturer or stock images.

State exactly what is included

Identify every included component, spare, accessory, document, service, revision, deliverable, or right.

Also state what is not included.

For example:

Engine includes intake manifold, valve covers, and oil pan. Carburetor, ignition box, headers, starter, fuel pump, and accessories are not included.

Verify fitment before making a claim

Do not state that a part “will fit” unless the claim has been reasonably verified.

Provide:

  • Manufacturer
  • Part number
  • Measurements
  • Model
  • Year range
  • Chassis type
  • Engine type
  • Required modifications
  • Known incompatibilities

Use language such as “Buyer must independently confirm fitment” when compatibility depends on modifications or an unknown configuration.

Explain testing and inspection status

State whether the Offering has been:

  • Inspected
  • Pressure tested
  • Dyno tested
  • Measured
  • Magnafluxed
  • Leak tested
  • Run
  • Driven
  • Bench tested
  • Certified
  • Recertified
  • Professionally evaluated

Do not imply that testing occurred when it did not.

“Worked when removed” is not the same as a current operational warranty.

Clearly state when an Offering is:

  • Competition-only
  • Closed-course only
  • Not street legal
  • Off-road only
  • Experimental
  • Display only
  • Uncertified
  • Intended for professional installation
  • Restricted by emissions or safety law
  • Prohibited by certain tracks, series, classes, or sanctioning bodies

Set realistic fulfillment dates

Do not promise a shipping, completion, booking, or delivery date that cannot reasonably be met.

For custom work or services, explain:

  • When work begins
  • What information or materials are required from the Buyer
  • Estimated completion time
  • Possible delay factors
  • Approval milestones
  • How changes affect price and timing

Disclose the full price

Before the Buyer commits, identify all mandatory:

  • Shipping
  • Handling
  • Labor
  • Materials
  • Travel
  • Installation
  • Activation
  • Inspection
  • Escrow
  • Facility
  • Deposit
  • Customization
  • Other charges

Do not add a material mandatory charge after commitment unless the Buyer expressly agrees.

Publish clear cancellation and refund rules

State:

  • When cancellation is allowed
  • Whether a deposit is refundable
  • When custom work becomes nonrefundable
  • Return eligibility
  • Return window
  • Required item condition
  • Return-shipping responsibility
  • Restocking or cancellation fees
  • No-show rules
  • Weather or event-closure treatment
  • Refund timing and method

“No refunds” or “as is” language does not excuse fraud, lack of ownership, non-delivery, counterfeit goods, material misdescription, or another issue that cannot lawfully be disclaimed.

Keep transaction records

Preserve:

  • Listing versions
  • Photographs and video
  • Buyer questions
  • Seller answers
  • Quotes
  • Invoices
  • Change approvals
  • Shipping documents
  • Tracking
  • Inspection reports
  • Service records
  • Cancellation requests
  • Refund communications
  • Signed agreements and waivers

Use RaceTeams messaging and transaction tools whenever possible so the agreement and communications can be documented.

Update or remove unavailable Listings

A Seller must promptly update, pause, or remove a Listing when:

  • The Offering is no longer available
  • The price changes
  • The condition changes
  • New damage occurs
  • The fulfillment date changes
  • A recall is announced
  • A license, certification, or insurance policy expires
  • The Seller no longer has authority to complete the transaction

6. No routine pre-approval of every individual Listing

During the Founding Member Launch, RaceTeams may require approval before a Seller receives listing access. After access is granted, RaceTeams does not routinely pre-approve every individual Listing before publication unless a category, transaction, provider requirement, risk issue, or RaceTeams instruction requires additional review.

Publication does not mean that RaceTeams has:

  • Inspected the Offering
  • Verified every statement
  • Confirmed legal compliance
  • Confirmed title or ownership
  • Approved safety
  • Guaranteed authenticity
  • Guaranteed Seller qualifications
  • Endorsed the Seller
  • Approved the Listing for Stripe processing or shipping

Sellers remain responsible for their Listings and Offerings.

7. RaceTeams review and enforcement

RaceTeams may review any Listing or transaction at any time.

RaceTeams may:

  • Request records or supporting documents
  • Require corrections or additional disclosures
  • Change the Listing category
  • Restrict payment or shipping options
  • Convert a Listing to inquiry-only
  • Pause or remove a Listing
  • Cancel or restrict a transaction
  • Delay or restrict a payout
  • Warn a Seller
  • Require verification, insurance, licensing, or corrective action
  • Suspend or terminate an Account
  • Report suspected unlawful conduct to a payment provider, carrier, rights holder, regulator, insurer, or law-enforcement agency

RaceTeams is not required to identify every violation before harm occurs and does not promise to review every Listing.

Serious or repeated violations may result in permanent removal from the marketplace.

8. Reporting a Listing

Users should report Listings involving:

  • Suspected fraud
  • Stolen property
  • Counterfeit items
  • Recalled or unsafe products
  • False ownership
  • Undisclosed damage
  • Illegal emissions products
  • Hazardous materials
  • Intellectual-property infringement
  • Threats or abuse
  • Exploitation of minors
  • Other serious policy violations

Reports may be sent to:

support@raceteams.com

Include the Listing URL, Seller name, reason for the report, and available evidence.

RaceTeams may not disclose the result of an investigation when doing so could reveal confidential, fraud-prevention, security, legal, or law-enforcement information.

9. Changes to this Policy

RaceTeams may update this Policy prospectively as marketplace categories, laws, payment-provider requirements, carrier rules, safety standards, and business practices change.

The version displayed when a Listing or transaction is created will apply to that activity unless applicable law or a later accepted agreement requires otherwise.

This Policy should be read together with:

  • RaceTeams Terms of Service
  • RaceTeams Community & User Content Standards
  • RaceTeams Copyright & DMCA Policy
  • RaceTeams Marketplace Fees
  • RaceTeams Marketplace Transaction, Cancellation, Refund & Dispute Policy
  • RaceTeams Privacy Policy
  • Seller cancellation and refund rules
  • RaceTeams Transaction Assistance Agreement, when applicable
  • Payment-provider and carrier requirements
  • Transaction-specific agreements, waivers, and releases
