About Rally Racing Helmets, Firesuits and Safety Gear

Shop rally racing helmets, co-driver helmets, fire suits, seats, harnesses, head and neck restraints, gloves, shoes, fire systems and cockpit safety gear on RaceTeams.com.

Rally safety has a two-person cockpit and a changing environment. The driver may be managing grip on gravel, snow or tarmac while the co-driver is reading pace notes, watching timing and working an intercom. Both can spend long hours in the car across transits and stages. Equipment has to fit the person, fit the cockpit, work with the communication system and meet the current rules for the actual event.

This page is for physical driver and co-driver protection. Intercom boxes, rally computers, radios and pace-note tools belong under Rally Racing Equipment, Intercoms and Service Tools, even when they are used inside the car.

Rally Racing Helmets and Co-Driver Helmets

Listings may include full-face helmets, open-face rally helmets where permitted, driver helmets, co-driver helmets, intercom-ready helmets, visors, shields, helmet bags, microphones, speakers and helmet-specific communication accessories.

Sellers should show certification labels clearly and disclose size, condition, manufacture date when known, prior impact history when known, interior wear, visor condition, wiring, plugs and included accessories.

Co-driver comfort and communication matter. A helmet that fits well for a short sprint may feel very different after a full rally day. Sellers should state whether the helmet includes installed communications or only the helmet shell.

Firesuits, Gloves, Shoes and Base Layers

Listings may include one-piece fire suits, driver and co-driver suits, gloves, shoes, balaclavas, socks and fire-resistant base layers.

Sellers should provide size, measurements, condition, certification or homologation label when applicable, production date when known, stains, tears, repairs, alterations and sponsor embroidery or logos.

Used apparel should be described honestly. A suit that was accepted at a previous rally should not automatically be represented as current for every WRC, ARA, NASA RallySport, Canadian or regional event.

Rally Seats and Harnesses

Driver and co-driver seats are central to cockpit fit.

Listings may include composite seats, halo and non-halo seats, side mounts, base mounts, seat brackets, six-point harnesses, five-point harnesses where permitted, lap belts, shoulder belts, anti-sub straps and related hardware.

Sellers should include seat size, shell condition, mounting points, certification labels, date information, prior crash history when known, harness dates, belt condition, fraying, contamination and included hardware.

The co-driver side deserves equal attention. Seat position can affect pace-note visibility, footrest placement, intercom access and cockpit clearance.

Head and Neck Restraints

Listings may include frontal head restraints, HANS-style devices, tethers, helmet anchors, replacement pads, bags and accessories.

Sellers should state size, model, condition, certification information where applicable, tether condition and included anchors. Buyers should verify compatibility with their helmet, harness, seat and current rules.

Fire Systems and Cockpit Safety

Listings may include fire suppression systems, fire bottles, nozzles, lines, pull cables, electric or mechanical activation hardware, handheld extinguishers, roll-cage padding, window or center nets where applicable, kill switches, battery cutoffs, belt cutters and emergency tools.

A seller should identify service date, agent type, bottle size, discharge status, included lines or nozzles and whether inspection or service is recommended.

Installation, cage work, seat mounting and fire-system installation are services and belong under Rally Car Prep and Fabrication Services.

Stage Rally, RallyCross and School Safety Gear

A first-time SCCA RallyCross driver, an ARA stage-rally crew and a Rally2 customer program may not need the same equipment.

RallyCross can be an accessible entry point and often creates demand for helmets and entry-level safety products. Full stage rally generally requires a much deeper driver and vehicle safety package. Rally schools may need multiple sizes of helmets, suits and other reusable equipment for student fleets.

Listings should explain what the product was used for without guaranteeing that it meets another event's rules. Buyers should verify current requirements with the sanctioning body, event organizer or qualified specialist.

Used, Expired and Display-Only Safety Gear

Safety gear can have value even after its active competition life, but the listing must make the intended use clear.

Expired harnesses, old helmets, retired suits and race-used equipment may be sold for display, collecting, training demonstrations or buyer inspection. If the primary value is historical, signed or collectible, use Rally Memorabilia, Posters and Collectibles.

Never rely on appearance alone to describe used protective equipment as safe or current.

What Sellers Should Include

A strong rally safety listing should include:

  • Product type, brand and model
  • Driver or co-driver use when relevant
  • Size and measurements
  • Certification or homologation label when applicable
  • Manufacture, service or expiration date when applicable
  • New, used, race-used, expired or display-only condition
  • Known crash or impact history
  • Wear, cuts, fraying, contamination, cracks or repairs
  • Mounting style and hardware included
  • Intercom compatibility for helmets when relevant
  • Service information for fire systems
  • Clear photos of labels, dates and condition
  • Shipping or pickup terms
  • Exactly what the buyer receives

Avoid unsupported claims about current certification, class legality, event eligibility, impact history, inspection status or protective performance.

What Buyers Should Review

Before buying, review fit, certification, dates, condition, prior use, crash history, compatibility, mounting needs, current rules and whether inspection or recertification is appropriate.

RaceTeams.com does not inspect, verify, certify, approve or guarantee rally helmets, fire suits, seats, harnesses, restraints, fire systems, certification, expiration dates, fit, condition, crash history, installation, class legality, event eligibility, seller claims, shipping, delivery or purchase outcomes.
